INTO THE WOODS: Here’s a reason to be happy ever after... as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Grammy and Tony Award-winning musical. Into the Woods features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. But be careful what you wish for...
The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. Yet, as Into the Wood's penultimate number reminds us, "No one is alone." One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with dark comedy and complex music and rhythms.

We are very proud that STANDING ROOM ONLY THEATER COMPANY has earned such a stellar reputation in Dutchess County since we raised our first curtain in 2008. We started with youth shows, progressed to multiple casts and then, as our performers got older, we developed
SRO TEEN! We now have SRO YOUTH COMPANIES, SRO TEEN/COLLEGE/YOUNG ADULT COMPANIES, SRO KIDS AND SRO PLUS (Theatre for developmentally disabled adults)
Now in our 17th year, we are pleased that SRO has become synonymous with professional, well-directed and produced shows in which EACH performer gets a chance to shine.
All shows are cast and directed by Dan and Eileen Sclafani; award-winning Actors Equity/SAG performers who spent their early adulthood working professionally in NYC and on national tours, international tours, cruise ships, regional theater, award-winning cabaret, commercials, a cappella groups, promotional groups, workshops and industrials. They have experience in almost every aspect of the business & have numerous contacts in the industry. They direct multiple shows at middle schools, high schools and other youth theater programs in our community. These experiences make them uniquely qualified to mentor your child.
